Today’s favorite magical books are all about a new find (for me, anyway). A traditionally published, fairy tale retelling which had me on the edge of my seat from page one until the end. The Lunar Chronicles is not to be missed!

Okay, okay, so strictly speaking, magic in the Lunar chronicles doesn’t exist. But that’s precisely why it’s one of my favorite “magical” systems. The mind control and glamour is simply an illusion, a trick of the eye and the brain synapsis. The technical way it was explained just set my science-loving heart a-flutter. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the same science-focused, explanation-for-everything undercurrent is the backbone behind Lexie’s system of magic as well. (Although, unlike Lunar, there actually is magic in Lexie…)

That technical focus fit in so perfectly with the concept of the series–taking well-known fairy tales and giving them a sci-fi twist. I’ll tell you that I resisted reading the books for a long time because the cyborg concept got me concerned (cyborgs <> androids, for the record). But from the first page, I was suckered into the world.

If you haven’t checked out this series, highly, highly recommended.
